Peer Counseling

Peer Counseling
No one should have to go through the journey alone. We provide access to people and resources that can aid in your recovery through encouragement, education, and information. As amputees themselves, our on-staff peer counselors are personally connected to the world of prosthetics, including prosthetic legs, and understand better than anyone what our patients are dealing with. They offer invaluable amputee support, sharing their experiences and providing crucial amputee information.

All our peer visitors are certified by the Amputee Coalition of America and held to the highest standards of care and confidentiality.

Resources

The Amputee Coalition: www.amputee-coalition.org The Amputee Coalition is an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for amputees and their families, improving patient care, and preventing limb loss. They are heavily involved with legislation for prosthetic parity and education for amputees and their families. They also publish a great magazine specifically for people with limb loss and limb differences, and those who care about them: InMotion.

Challenge Magazine: www.disabledsportsusa.org/resources/challenge-magazine/ Challenge Magazine is a publication of Disabled Sports USA, providing adaptive sports information to adults and children with disabilities, including those who are visually impaired, amputees, spinal cord injured (paraplegic and quadriplegic), and those who have multiple sclerosis, head injury, cerebral palsy, autism, and other related intellectual disabilities. From those learning adaptive sports for the first time to disabled athletes on the US Paralympic team, Challenge Magazine encourages anyone with a disability to participate in sports!
